The Jalingo local government council in Taraba state, northeast Nigeria, has trained 3,828 women and youths on different skills acquisition with a view to improve their entrepreneurship potentials.
The Chairman Caretaker Committee, Alhaji Abdulnaseer Bobboji disclosed this in an address at the graduation ceremony of the 7th batch of the programme, held at the local government Secretariat in Jalingo, the state capital.
He said, the training has been conducted in seven (7) out of the ten (10) wards of the LG, adding that there are plans being put in place to cover the remaining three (3) wards in the foreseeable future.
Bobboji who is also the ALGON Chairman in the state, noted that the programme which is aimed at reducing the rate of unemployment among women and youths irrespective of religion and ethnicity in various communities of the LGA.
He said, it is also aimed at for the beneficiaries to become self reliance and encourage unity among the citizenry, as well as improve the level of peace and security in their various areas.
” Today’s event, as i earlier mentioned, is both important and memorable in many ways. It is important because it addresses the aim for which this programme was initiated in the first place”.
According to him, the seriousness of the Women and Youths who attended the training was commendable and thanked the state Governor, Darius Dickson Ishaku for Supporting Jalingo LG towards ensuring that Women and Youths were meaningfully engaged.
Abdulnasir Bobboji therefore, enjoined the beneficiaries to make good use of the skills they have learned and get themselves out of unemployment as well as reduce poverty in the society.
He however, promised that the local government council would partner with Taraba state Micro Finance Bank with a view to secure soft loan for those that shows seriousness among the beneficiaries in order to assist them more to improve their economic status.
Earlier, in a remark, the Galadiman Muri and District Head of Jalingo, Alhaji Tukur Abba Tukur was optimistic that the vocational training would assist immensely in providing meaningful livelihood for the youths and women in the society.
According to him, the programme had contributed a lot in curbing crime and insecurity within Jalingo metropolitan and thanked the Caretaker Chairman for his relentless efforts towards ensuring that women and youths are empowered.
Also speaking, Professor Abbas Bàshir of Moddibo Adama University, Yola, Adamawa state described Bobboji as one of the best Chairman Jalingo local government have ever had, noting that beside women and youths empowerment scheme initiated by his administration, the Chairman had also succeeded in ensuring peace and uniting the people of the area because of his all inclusive leadership style.
The seven (7) wards the training were conducted include Turaki ‘A’ at Waziri Sa’ad Islamiyya School with 365 participants, Turaki ‘B’ held at Nyamusal Primary School with 445, Mayo-gwai at Nasarawo with 385 and Kachalla Sembe at Sabon Gari Primary School with 420 beneficiaries.
Others are Barade ward, held at Muhammad Tukur Primary School with 658, Kona ward at Mayodasa Primary School with 355as well as Sarkin Dawaki ward which is the 7th batch held at Sabon Gari Primary School with 1200 participants respectively.
The vocational skills training includes Make-up, Shoe and Bag Making, Tailoring, Catering, Hygiene, Decoration, Tiles Fixing, Computer Training and Sets light installation & Repairs.
