Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has addressed the people of Rivers State, urging them to remain calm and law-abiding amidst the current political turmoil.
In a statement, Governor Fubara emphasized his commitment to upholding the constitutional order and the rule of law, prioritizing the protection of lives and property, and ensuring the continuous progress of the state.
Despite the challenges posed by the political impasse, Governor Fubara highlighted his administration’s efforts to foster peace, unity, and stability in the state. He noted that his government has implemented the agreed terms of the peace brokered by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, including welcoming back commissioners who had previously resigned.

However, Governor Fubara expressed disappointment that members of the Rivers State House of Assembly have frustrated his efforts, making genuine peace and progress difficult. He reassured the people of Rivers State that his priorities remain the security of lives and property, advancing the well-being and prosperity of Rivers people, and ensuring good governance.
In a surprising turn of events, President Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State on Tuesday, suspending Governor Fubara and the Rivers State House of Assembly. The President cited the need to restore peace and order in the state, following a series of disturbances and the blowing up of a pipeline.
Governor Fubara’s address to the people of Rivers State comes at a critical time, as the state navigates this unprecedented situation.
