As the deadline set by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) for the implementation of the new minimum wage draws near, states across the country are racing against time to meet the requirement. The NLC had threatened to embark on industrial action if the states failed to implement the new minimum wage of ₦70,000 by the stipulated deadline.
The new minimum wage was agreed upon after a series of negotiations between the federal government and labour leaders, following a nationwide strike that paralyzed economic activities in May. The strike was called off after the government agreed to increase the minimum wage from ₦30,000 to ₦70,000, with a review every three years.

With the deadline looming, many states are working tirelessly to ensure that they meet the requirement. Some states, such as Lagos and Rivers, have already begun paying the new minimum wage, while others are still in the process of implementing it.
