‘Stop Dragging Atiku’s Name’ –Babazango Dismisses Bashir’s ADC Ticket Claim as ‘Charade’ Ahead of 2027

‎Abubakar Babazango Abaza, the member representing the Yola South, Yola North, and Girei Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has strongly rejected claims by one Bashir Abubakar that he won the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ticket for the constituency, describing the assertion as a “charade” orchestrated by enemies of the party.

‎In a firm statement, Hon. Babazango declared himself the sole and legitimate candidate of the ADC for the 2027 elections, insisting that he fulfilled all party and legal requirements to secure the ticket.

‎He categorically denied any substitution of names, stressing that Bashir Abubakar neither purchased the expression of interest form nor was he ever known to the party as an aspirant. Asking questions to prove where primary was conducted with results indicated he won the election.

‎“Bashir did not purchase the ADC expression of interest form and is not known to the party as a contestant, possible think he can buy ticket without following the due process” Babazango said.

‎“He is not a winner; his rejection is a mere postulation of unfounded claims. No form he got from the party and his name is not there in the party as an aspirant, talk more of winning the election.”

‎The lawmaker urged the general public, particularly voters in his constituency, to disregard what he termed “desperate moves” to distort facts. He maintained that his emergence as the candidate followed due process and expressed confidence in winning re-election on the ADC platform in 2027, “God willing.”

‎Babazango further cautioned Bashir Abubakar against dragging the name of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate and national leader of the ADC, into what he described as a personal political drama aimed at gaining cheap popularity.

‎“Get some respect and stop dragging our Presidential candidate and the national leader into your charade,” he warned. “Stop dragging Atiku’s name into your political drama over deliberate attempts of smearing his name and dropping his name to the public domains for cheap popularity.”

‎The controversy comes as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections. Hon. Babazango, who has been actively representing the constituency, called on well-meaning voters in Yola North, Yola South, and Girei to remain optimistic and prepared, assuring them of continued quality representation under the ADC banner.

‎Party sources close to the ADC in Adamawa State have maintained that the official nomination process was transparent and that only candidates who met all stipulated criteria were duly recognized. There has been no official confirmation from the party’s national leadership validating Bashir Abubakar’s claim.

‎Political analysts view the development as part of the early jostling for positions within opposition parties in the Northeast region, where the ADC is positioning itself as a formidable alternative ahead of 2027. The party has been making inroads in Adamawa, leveraging the influence of its national leader, Atiku Abubakar.

‎Hon. Babazango concluded his statement by appealing for calm among supporters and the electorate. “I call on the general public and the well-meaning voters in Yola North, Yola South, and Girei Federal Constituency to be in good spirits as the election is fast approaching,” he said.

‎As the countdown to the 2027 polls begins, stakeholders expect more clarity from the ADC on its candidates across various constituencies to avoid internal distractions that could undermine the party’s chances.
