No fewer than 56 residents of Gwangwan village, Rogo Local Government Area of Kano State have reportedly been vomiting and urinating blood following an outbreak of a mysterious ailment in the village.
Residents of Gwangwan village, which is located 136 kilometres away from Kano city, were gripped, on Thursday, gripped by fears, just as many of them were confused about the situation.
A resident of the village, Muhammad Tukur, said six areas within the village were affected while about 56 persons have already contracted the disease.
According to him, “The areas affected by the outbreak of the disease include Unguwan Rijiyan Dadi, Gwanwan Gabas, Gwangwan Yamma, Unguwar Tsarmai, Gangare, and Unguwar Kofar Fada.
“We rushed no fewer than 30 people to the Rogo General Hospital within a day of the outbreak.
“So far, only one person has died as a result of the outbreak.
“Most of the victims of the disease have complained of spending a lot of money on the disease.”
A father, whose two kids have been infected, lamented that he had spent over N20,000 treating his children in the hospital.
Another resident, with eight affected persons in his household, said he has been completely devastated by the situation.
He added that some of the affected family members, that include his wife, mother and children, had become so weak that they couldn’t even summon the energy to stand on their feet without being supported due to the severity of the disease.
He lamented that he had so far spent N100,000 treating them at Rogo Hospital and Gwarzo Hospital without any improvement.
A staff of the village clinic, who pleaded not to be named, said that the disease was far beyond the capacity of the clinic.
He said that was why the victims were being referred to Rogo Hospital.
But officials of Rogo Hospital, who declined to be identified, said they were not aware of any disease outbreak in the area.
But diseases outbreak unit at the Ministry of Health in Kano said the ministry received a report of the outbreak.
The ministry, however, said only four people were affected and they had since been treated and discharged.
