….Union vows to go ahead with ongoing strike

The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, Federal Poly Mubi chapter has accused the management of the institution of insincerity in the ongoing efforts to resolve differences between academic staff and the management.

A statement by the chairman of ASUP, federal polytechnic Mubi chapter, Comrade Hussaini James, accused the management of playing to the gallery due to its lack of concern for the welfare and security of the both staff and students as no COVID-19 preventive protocols have been put in place to safeguard lives in the institution.

” The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, (ASUP), Federal Polytechnic Mubi has warned all students of the institution not to resume lectures as the strike is still ongoing.

” ASUP frowns at the insincerity on the part of the management of Federal Polytechnic Mubi by not listening and meeting even 40 percent of the demands of the union,” the statement said.

ASUP urged parents not to risk their children to school as all academic activities have been shutdown automatically.

The union equally urged the students to disregard any notice of resumption for any exams as lecturers have deserted the campus due to deadlock of series of negotiations.

” It seems the management is deliberately working towards endangering the lives of workers and students in the institution because the COVID-19 guidelines and protocols have not been put in place in federal Polytechnic Mubi”

The statement added that ‘the union was in discussion still not concluded yet the management is calling back the students without taking the union in to confidence’.

James said, congress will be called to inform members on the progress and the way forward.

Checks from the Federal Polytechnic Mubi shows that in an effort to resolve the imbroglio, an MoU between the two sides was drafted so that students can resume but the whole dialogue collapsed again forcing the union to shutdown academic activities.
