The stance position of the former Secretary to the government of the federation (SGF), Engr Babachir David Lawal against the Muslim Muslim Presidential ticket of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has taken another dimension.
This is when Ahmed Bola Tinubu ignored the cries of party stalwarts like Babachir and Christians Association of Nigeria (CAN) on the danger of fielding a Muslim Muslim vice president for the forth coming Presidential election in 2023.
Against all odds, Bola on Friday submitted Senator Shettima Kashim’s name to independent Electoral Commission (INEC), an act according to David that he has thrown down the gauntlet and damned the consequences.
You would recall that the former SGF has clearly condemned the nomination of Shettima in his early Press Release made available to news men and reiterated that: “those the gods want to destroy they first make mad”.
Babachir today has gave out another release to TG NEWS correspondent in Abuja and stressed his indignant to the decision of his party Presidential flag bearer who happened to be his political close ally.
He reiterated that Nigeria belongs to everyone and they will not allow Tinubu to relegate Christians and their children to second class citizens.
“This is our country and we will not let Alhaji Ahmed Bola Tinubu relegate us, our children and our religion to second class status in our own country.
“For us, this as an existential crises. Our rights to justice and peaceful co-existense with all practitioners of other religions is under threat. A northern Nigerian Christian child deserves to be bequeathed a future in which he can aspire to be President or Vice President of Nigeria. ” David said
He continued to say that :
“Tinubu has thrown down the gauntlet. He has submitted Alhaji Kashim Shetima as his nominee. He has stood by his affirmation that he only requires moslem votes to be President and for all he cares, Christians can all go to hell with their votes. This is his position and he has a right. I concede to him.
“We have picked it up this gauntlet. The God of justice and equity through the Nigerian voter will decide the victor between the Nigerian Christian, Alhaji Tinubu and his party the APC.”
