…says club’s Infrastructural Development to be extended Sports Sector
The Adamawa state chapter of Sport Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has called on the the Governor of Adamawa state, Rt Hon Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri to dissolved the Emmanuel Zira lead management team over poor performance of Adamawa United Football Club.
The Association in a communique issue at the end of it’s August Congress expressed dismay over the poor performance of the club in the recently concluded Nigeria Premier league.
The Communique drafting committee headed by Jawati Friday and signed by the Association’s Secretary, Ephraim Okpanachi described the failure of the team to maintain the premiership status as on acceptable.
.
SWAN maintains that “it is saddened by the gross mismanagement of Adamawa United over the years, a situation which has seen the team unable to manage successes, with players sometimes stranded while on assignment was unacceptable and calls for a re-jig of the failed management system”
While commending the Finitiri led administration for the commitment he has shown to Adamawa United Football club, the association noted with “worrying concern, the alarming downward spiral in sporting activities in the State and has called for emergency rescue as well as a sustainable revival strategy”
Adding that ” the traditional events that annually dot the sporting calendar in the state, such as Schools sports competitions, inter-local government cups, the State FA Cup as well as State league, were now near non-existent”.
Stressing that ” the Appalling condition of the States Sports Council, which was ruined during a bomb explosion in 2016, had now become an embarrassment, as the headquarters of Sports development and administration in the State, remains in shambles, with officers working without offices and athletes train without facilities, five years on”.
SWAN notes that “Adamawa one of the oldest States in the North-East region, from its days as Gongola, surprisingly remains the only State in the Region, without a Sports complex of any standard and by extension a proper training facility in the country”.
Adamawa sports writers, appealed to the State Governor Umuru Finitiri to extend the massive commitment to general infrastructural development in the state to the Sports sector, so as to rescue the sector from imminent collapse.
It could be recalled that the club under the Emmanuel Zira leadership gained promotion in 2006 but could not maintain the success and the club was relegated at the end of 2006/2007 season.
A feat, the club repeated in the just concluded 2020/2021 season where Adamawa United Football Club was rooted at the bottom of the table with 25points from 38 matches and a -35 goals 14 points adrift from second to last team on the log despite the huge amount of money spent by the state government.
