Minister of Police Affairs, Mohammad Dingyadi on Friday revealed that police authorities have deployed officers of the new Special Weapons and Tactics Team in state commands.
The minister spoke when he appeared on Channels Television’s ‘Politics Today’ programme.
Speaking on SWAT, Dingyadi said that officers of the formation “have ended their training and they have been posted to the state police commands that brought them for training. They are there with them and they are performing the functions of the SWAT”.
The recently sacked Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, had following #EndSARS protests in October last year, disbanded the Special Anti-Robbery Squad and set up SWAT to replace the squad.
Protests against SARS followed
allegations of human rights abuses and extrajudicial killings perpetrated by officers of the formation.
