Taraba Assembly Passed 24 Bills in the 8th Assembly

As the 8th Assembly winds up, the Taraba State House of Assembly has passed 24 Bills which were assented to into Laws and several resolutions, with many other Bills which are at various stages of completion.

This was disclosed during a two-day Induction/Orientation workshop for Members-elect, which ended on Wednesday in Jalingo.

According to Speaker of the House, Abel Diah, “despite the daunting challenges we faced during the period under review, ranging from communal clashes, insurgencies, Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Bill and the kidnapping of our dear colleague, Barr Hosea Ibi, which eventually led to his untimely death, this House rose against these challenges to pass 24 Bills which were assented to Laws and several resolutions”.

Diah, while opening the workshop, stated that the essence of the retreat was to expose members-elect with the modus operandi of legislative activities.

While advising the members-elect, the Speaker said, “the secret of a successful legislature is dialogue with one another and with other arms of government”.

The Taraba State governor, Darius Ishaku, had earlier declared the workshop open, while emphasising on the cordial relationship that existed between the executive and legislature in the 8th Assembly.

Various speakers gave their lectures on various aspects of legislation including lawmaking, oversight and financial appropriation.

A mock session of electing officials of the House was also done.
Meanwhile, a 17 point communique was read by the Speaker which hinges more on what was discussed at the event and relationship between the legislature and executive.
