The Nigerian Red Cross Society with the support of the international federation of the Red cross 2020 intervention program for the most vulnerable persons within the society has kicked started in Taraba state.
The program was flagged off in Jalingo, the state capital with 300 beneficiaries for NRCS /IFRC 2020 cash transfer program in the state.
The beneficiaries drawn from Takum, Gasol and Jalingo local government areas of the state where each person received the sum of N51,500
Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Regional NRCS Coordinator, Alhaji Abubarkar Yakubu Gombe, emphasized on the seven fundamental principles as what guides the way the Red Cross operates.
A Community leader of Jauro Boto in Jalingo LGA, Joseph Voto, who was highly elated said that he can’t imagine where any government agency will just wakeup and remember them unlike the Red Cross.
Voto described this season as a bright one for the most vulnerable people in his community and prayed that the Red cross will continue to make tremendous impact.
On his part, the ward head of Tudun wada, Malam Muhammad also appreciated Red Cross for empowering them with cash, saying that i it would help a lot of them in using the money as capital to start a business.
He however, described the gesture by the Red Cross as first of its kind and urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the money received.
