The Taraba state commissioner for Information and Reorientation, Barr. Danjima Adamu has charged the newly established Worldview Magazine chapel to strictly adhere to the Nuj constitution as well as the ethics of journalism profession.
He gave charge when he received both the management and Exco of the chapel on a courtesy call in his office at the state Secretariat jalingo, the state capital.
He implored them to ensure that they practice within the highest professional standard and stressed the need for all members of the chapel to master the union’s constitution and desist from yellow and quackery journalism that could lead to creating fake news.
The commissioner who noted that the management has taken a bold step for even been allowed to be established as a chapel, also emphasized on the need for them to work hard and ensure regular payment of staff salary to enable members of the chapel to pay their check off dues to the Nuj state council.
“The constitution of your profession is like your BIBLE, you have to master it. The chapel is exist to protect the interest of its members generally and also to help their employers to achieve the goal within of which they established the product. So it is a two way something, you have your right and then you have responsibility, you are vested with these two things, so, you most do it.
“And why i emphasizing on the need to adhere to the contents of the constitution is that, we will not like to see what people you call ‘Quack’ in the profession, doing so you know the danger and the danger is enormous” The Commissioner emphasized.
According to him, if the management does not pay it staff regularly they are bounds to face problem with the mother union in the state because they will not be able to pay their check off dues, while he admonished members of the chapel to be loyal to the Nuj state council for them to achieve their set objectives.
Barr. Danjuma Adamu who is the number one journalist in the state, advised them to always verify their sources before going to the print, adding that anything they have doubt on, should be left until it is verified to avoid creating bad image for themselves as private organization.
On the pledged made by the Editor in Chief of the magazine on cooperating with the present administration of Governor Darius Ishaku, the Commissioner noted that it is easier to such promise and expressed hope that….
“You have said it and i want to say it again clearly, that a’a we are going to cooperate with the government and so on and so forth, we have heard that many times. Politics is around the corner especially in Nigeria, we all know it, you have just come here and be saying we will do this we will do that, well, it is easier to say than done but time shall tell if your royalty is genuine, we will see” Barr. Adamu emphasized.
The however assured them that his door is always open and will continue to encaurage them.
Earlier, the Editor in chief, of the Worldview Magazine who led the delegation told the commissioner and his management team that they were in his office for familiarization and assured him of their continues loyalty and objectivity in their reportage.
Mr. Williams Ayooso also appreciated the commissioner for his fatherly role in mentoring many veterans journalists and urged him not to relent, while he urged him on the need for government patronage.
