The Wife of Taraba State Governor, Barr. Anna Darius Ishaku has sued for collaborative effort to combat all forms of violence in the society.
Mrs. Ishaku stated this during the opening ceremony of a two day workshop on tackling the pandemic of violence organised by her pate project, ‘Hope Afresh Foundation Taraba’.
The workshop which look place at Taraba Motel in Jalingo, was aimed at to have broad based discussion with stakeholders on possible ways to addressing the increasing case of all forms of violence in the state.
Mrs. Ishaku lamented that the society is ravaged by all forms of violence, forcing the government at all levels to shift attention away from development to address and curb violence related situations.
According to her, the issue of violence in the society is not only devastating for survivors and their families, but entails significant social and economic cost, believing that if left unattended to means significant cost for the future.
Barr. Anna Darius also explained that for pandemic of violence to be decrease, it requires community based and a holistic approach with a sustained engagement with multiple stakeholders to discuss on possible ways of addressing the menace.
On her part, the Monitoring and Evaluation officer of Hope Afresh Foundation Taraba, Sarah David Ibbi commended the Governor’s wife for organizing the workshop and expressed hope that in the end of the session crucial issue and resolution must have been digested to curb the pandemic.
A resource person at the occasion who is a psychologist, Sanda Benjamin who spoke on the topic “Get involved” stressed the need for all hands must be on deck to actualise the struggle in containing gender based violence in the society.
He informed that all forms of violence have negative impact on individual, family and the society, hence the need to support the fight against gender based violence across the nation.
The theme of the symposium is “Tackling the Pandemic of violence and the attendant consequences: Get involved”
