….govt reassures commitment to protect lives and property
Taraba state has expressed concern on the recent resurgence of kidnappings in the State.
The State Commissioner for Information and Reorientation, Barrister Danjuma Adamu disclosed this during a periodic press briefing held in Jalingo, the state capital.
He said, the Governor Darius Ishaku’s administration will continue to cooperate and collaborate with the security agencies as well as do everything within its powers to bring an end the activity of the menace.
According Adamu, securing lives and property of the citizens is a high priority on the agenda of Ishaku’s administration, urging the people of the state to also play their role by lending their support to the government with a view to achieve its set objective of making the state safe and secure for all.
The Commissioner, also informed that the sustained and commitment efforts of Governor Darius Ishaku to ensure that peace returns to the southern part of the state has started yielding results.
He however, revealed that the committee constituted by the state government to resettle the people of Chonku and Assa communities in Wukari LGA has recorded an appreciable level of success as sensitization and seminars on peaceful coexistence are being organized regularly.
” This is to build confidence among the victims of the crisis and to ensure they return to their normal life.
“My fellow colleagues of the Fourth Estate of the Realm, step by step it is clear that Governor Darius Ishaku’s drive and zeal to better the lot of Tarabans is bearing fruits.” Danjuma Adamu added.
Commenting on the soon-to-be established model ranch and livestock training centre in the state, the Commissioner said already provision has been made for the project in the 2021 budget.
He explained that the project is in line with the open grazing and ranches establishment law enacted in 2017, aimed at minimizing herders and farmers clashes as well as the promotion of modern agricultural animal husbandry practices.
Adamu further stressed that, ranching system is the global best animal husbandry practice that can bring about increase productivity, improved liveihoods of actors in the field, safety and security, job creation and peace building as well as social justice.
” Experts recommended that the project be sited in one of the epicentres of the herders and farmers conflicts. This is to help expose people of the State to the benefits of ranching to encourage the herders, farmers and youths to embrace the system as a panacea to the incessant conflicts between the two groups.
” A suitable land was therefore, secured by the Government along Takum-Wukari road for the establishment of this model ranch and livestock training centre” said Information Commissioner.
According to him, the centre when established, will give Tarabans, particularly the youths the opportunity to practice livestock business under a conducive and peaceful environment.
Barrister Danjuma Adamu therefore, noted that the model ranch and livestock training centre is different from RUGA project of the Federal Government as some people misinterpreted it, adding that the federal government has replaced the RUGA with another scheme known as “National Livestock Transformation Plan (NLTP)”.
