The Executive Secretary, Taraba State Post Primary Schools Management Board (TSPPSMB), Elder Danazumi Navoki Hassan has stated that neighbouring communities to some institutions of learning in the State tamper with the infrastructural facilities of such institutions making learning difficult for Students.
Hassan, who condemned such actions stated this while answering questions from newsmen in Jalingo the State capital.
Journalists were at the Headquarters of TSPPSMB in Jalingo to ascertain the root causes of the recent demonstration by the students of Salihu Dogo Government Day Secondary School, Jalingo.
Newsmen told the Executive Secretary that there was a demonstration by the Students alleging infrastructural decay and non availability of Seats and/or Desks in their various Classrooms.
The demonstration, Hassan admitted but refuted the allegations of non availability of infrastructural facilities saying, Salihu Dogo Government Day Secondary School, Jalingo has enough Seats in all the Classes.
“I am not happy with that development and I have arrested the situation, I went there with my management staff, even with the Press”,
“I gave the Students enough Counsel, advising that nobody should deceive them, they should take their studies seriously, respect their Princiapal and Teachers at all times including their Parents who spend money to send them to School”,
After the meetings, I moved round the Classrooms, met Students sitting on their Seats and they have enough Teachers”, ES stated.
TSPPSMB boss further commended Governor Darius Ishaku for giant strides in the Education Sector and also appreciated the Principal, Salihu Dogo Government Day Secondary School, Jalingo, Mrs. Christy Zaku for doing so much towards making sure that the School stays the test of time.
“I discovered that neighbours destroy these Seats, take them to their homes to make fire wood”,
“Every time the Board produces Seats for the School, they are being carted away by neighbours who visit the premises during late hours”, he said.
The Executive Secretary opined that averting these Seats from being carted away by hoodlums was the reason why the Principal decided to be locking them up in some secured rooms for safety.
Some Students who spoke to our Reporter on the basis of unanimity said, while lessons were going on, some Students sit on bare floors while others hang on windows.
They added that they have kept quite for a long time, enduring the pathetic situation.
“Instead of equipping the Classrooms with Seats, they keep moving the few Seats available from one Classroom to the other, especially during exams”, the Students alleged.
