Bishop Matthew Kukah has expressed optimism that the tax reform bills introduced by President Bola Tinubu’s administration will curb financial recklessness among Nigeria’s elites. Speaking on Channels Television’s Morning Brief, Kukah acknowledged the widespread criticism of the reforms but urged Nigerians to see them as a potential turning point for the country’s development.
Kukah emphasized that Nigeria’s problem lies in the inability of states to create opportunities that channel citizens’ talents and visions constructively, leading to frustration and violence. He welcomed the conversation on tax reforms, hoping it would address the country’s dysfunctional financial practices and end the paradox of a resource-rich country where citizens struggle to make ends meet.

He also stressed the importance of effective communication in implementing reforms, noting that many Nigerians are grappling with poverty and frustration.
Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State also weighed in on the issue, stating that governors are not against the tax bills but rather seeking clarification on certain aspects. He highlighted the need for discussion and understanding of the bills before implementation.
