Nigeria is a nation-state that is simply heterogeneous in nature with many amalgamated ethnic nationalities. It has been existing as a nation because we have intermingled largely due to trade, marriages and politics. Despite our diversity we attend the same schools, we engage in sporting activities together, we shop from the same markets and we worship at the same religious Centers together… We will always continue to be inseparable and we will continue to depend on each other for our needs to be met.
I have dug up a lot from what happened in time past till when and how we came about our independence. Collectively the north, the south and east came together to co-exist under one national entity “NIGERIA”. Elements of part of the agreement is what we have as the flag green white green, where green connotes a blessed land of green vegetation and white means dove or peace; with white in between the 2 green meaning we were meant to coexist in peace..
Today I woke up this morning and kept wondering, how has a beautiful beginning resulted into this selfishness where a lot of unimaginable events have hindered durable peace and sustainable development.. We are in need of a country where every one can be in any good business and are protected, and there are healthy competitions.. Dialogue between all to resolve disputes should be the first resort each time smoke of misunderstandings steps in at whatever level in which ever environment. I believe as a proud Nigerian, we are above the limitation political science and history students call 300 years of modern slavery.
Over 60 years now, the music and steps now differ from what the progressive forefathers envisioned for us. We now feed on corruption and drink mischief for solely our personal interest not that of the country. Again, I beg of you fellow country men and women, instead of fueling agitations across the regions, we should use the same energy to build a focus around “the private sector”. Economic independence for every one asper everyone is contented, comfortable and happy.. Nigerian Visa will be a hot cake..
This Nigerian issue is worrisome because I now wonder what posterity will be to inherit? We need a few leaders who will mentor the young ones to develop courage to build systems to redirect the country in the right direction, it may not be perfect but the trend directs us towards progress.. Sadly, a few cabals and many citizens are blinded with sentiments are now beating “the drums of wars” just because the project of a better NIGERIA will come with a sacrifice or at a huge cost..
Beating drums of war in this country is equivalent to a ticking time bomb. The Biafrian war experience will be a tip of iceberg.. it is better to be contented in peace than to be wealthy under anarchy.. This is definitely different from the narrative Sir Ahmadu Bello presented at UN Assembly of what a progressive Nigeria will be after the historic event of 1st October, 1960.
It is very important to know that a country that continues to allow the wrong people beat drums of war will only distract the nation from its primary role of national building of the private-sector to improve and expand our Economy at this important time.
I therefore plead in tears that we see each other as brothers and sisters of the same parents, accommodate our individual religious views and we should support the government build the private sector in other to build our economy(GDP) so help us God.
