Since assuming office on May 29, 2019, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has demonstrated transformative leadership in strengthening Adamawa State’s financial systems and boosting Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).
Upon his taking charge, the state’s IGR as at 2020 stood at ₦8.329 billion, which was lower than the previous year of 2019. This is due to the global COVID-19 pandemic that ravaged the world, revenue rebounded impressively in subsequent years—rising to ₦13 billion in 2021, ₦13.1 billion in 2022, ₦17 billion in 2023, and ₦20.3 billion in 2024.
While for 2025, the state projects an ambitious ₦24.7 billion IGR, driven by reforms under the Adamawa State Tax Management Information System (ADIRS). This digital tax initiative has enhanced transparency and inclusivity, with even local transport operators such as tricycle riders (Keke) now pay taxes through secure electronic platforms.
Under Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s leadership, Adamawa State has witnessed a remarkable renewal, built on accountability, inclusion, and genuine progress. His administration has revitalized the civil service through digital verification systems that ended ghost workers, create fair recruitment processes, and continuous staff training that empowers public servants with modern skills.

In July 2025, he was awarded an honorary Doctor of Science in Public Administration by University of Port Harcourt in recognition of his “unwavering commitment to good governance, inclusive development, and his track‑record of empowering the under‑privileged.”
In October 2025, he was named “Best Governor in Digital Transformation” at the Nigeria GovTech Awards. The award honoured his leadership in using technology to improve public service delivery, transparency, and citizen engagement.
Also in 2025, the body of Permanent Secretaries in the state presented him with a “Special Award for Exceptional Leadership and Service Delivery”—a telling recognition from senior civil‑service professionals.
The Women in Africa in their 6th Future Women Confab (Lagos) 2024 honoured him: Africa Man of the Year for championing women’s inclusion in governance, thanks to his support for a 35% affirmative‑action policy for women in decision‑making roles, with the prime participant being prof. Kaletapwa Farauta, his Deputy Governor, Justice Hafsat Abdulrahman, first female Chief Judge in Adamawa State, the Executive Chairman of Fufore, and other Twenty Vice Chairpersons across Local councils in the state.
Back in July 2024, he was recognised and honoured nationally as “Best Performing Governor in Infrastructure Development in Nigeria,” for major strides in roads, bridges, hospitals, schools and water supply – By the Federal government.
The Vanguard Media Group (Board of Editors) honoured him with Good Governance Award 2023, in recognition of his leadership in infrastructural, human‑capital and state‑development initiatives.
Best Performing Governor of the Year 2023 by COA Media – 3rd Nigeria Service Awards 2023; highlighting performance across sectors.
In 2022, Nigerian News, a UK‑based Media group honoured the governor with Governor of the Year (Security) & Iconic Trailblazer of the Year, in recognition of his leadership in security, infrastructure, education etc.
Another feather on Governor Fintiri’s cap is the Best Governor in the North‑East awarded by TV Africa/Plus TV Africa/Pan‑African News Channel in 2025 for his strong leadership.
In the maiden TGNews Merit & Productivity Award 2023, Governor Fintiri was also honoured with the Award for Excellence in Leadership and Good Governance.
