The North East region of Nigeria is standing firm, demanding respect and recognition within the All Progressives Congress (APC), as tensions rise over perceived marginalization.

Recent events in Gombe have ignited outrage, with calls for an apology from Borno State Governor, His Excellency Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum CON, being met with fierce resistance from regional advocates who argue that systemic injustices must be addressed instead.

Governor Zulum, widely regarded as a beacon of resilience and effective governance, has transformed Borno State despite formidable challenges.

It is not Zulum who needs the APC, but the APC that needs Zulum

His leadership has earned him widespread admiration across Nigeria, particularly in the North. “It is not Zulum who needs the APC, but the APC that needs Zulum,” declared Dr. Umar D. Duhu, a prominent regional commentator. “His influence and popularity are critical to the party’s success in securing Borno and other key states in the North East.”

Adding to the region’s grievances is the rumored plan to exclude Vice President Kashim Shettima from the APC’s 2027 presidential ticket. Shettima, a loyal ally of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and a respected leader, embodies the North East’s steadfast commitment to the party.

Dr. Duhu condemned the speculated move as a “blatant display of regional arrogance,” warning that sidelining Shettima could alienate a region that has consistently delivered crucial votes for the APC.

Never again will the North East be treated as political orphans

The North East’s role in the APC’s coalition is undeniable. Shettima’s presence on the 2027 ticket is not just about regional representation but about recognizing his proven ability to rally national support. “Never again will the North East be treated as political orphans,” Dr. Duhu asserted. “We demand respect, a fair share of power, and justice for our region.”

The APC stands at a crossroads. Marginalizing Zulum or Shettima risks fracturing its coalition and weakening its electoral prospects. Dr. Duhu urged the party to capitalize on Zulum’s leadership and Shettima’s loyalty to solidify its influence in the North.

The North East will not be silenced. The APC must act decisively to honor its ally or face the consequences of betrayal

The North East, he emphasized, is not seeking handouts but claiming its rightful place within the party.

As the region unites behind its leaders, the message resonates loudly: the North East will not be silenced. The APC must act decisively to honor its ally or face the consequences of betrayal.
