Buba Galadima, a prominent chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has firmly debunked rumors suggesting that Rabiu Kwankwaso, the party’s leader and former Kano State governor, is planning to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC) or any political coalition.

In a statement issued on Friday, Galadima dismissed the speculations as baseless, emphasizing Kwankwaso’s unwavering commitment to the NNPP and his ambition to lead Nigeria as its next president.
“Speculations that Rabiu Kwankwaso is joining the coalition or the APC reinforce our belief that he is the best candidate for Nigeria, as he’s been lobbied across the political divide,” Galadima declared. “We will stay in the NNPP strategically until the whistle is blown for politics. Others should support Kwankwaso to become the president of Nigeria.”
The rumors of Kwankwaso’s potential defection have been fueled by recent political realignments and reported overtures from rival parties seeking to bolster their ranks ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Kwankwaso, a seasoned politician with a strong grassroots following, particularly in northern Nigeria, has been a focal point of such discussions due to his influence and the NNPP’s growing prominence.
Galadima’s statement underscores the NNPP’s confidence in Kwankwaso’s leadership and his appeal across Nigeria’s complex political landscape.
