National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, on Sunday, reportedly resigned from office.
Similarly, the ruling party’s National Secretary, Senator Iyiola Omisore, may have also thrown in the towel.
First News gathered that Adamu threw in his resignation letter on Sunday on the orders of President Bola Tinubu.
Party and Presidency sources confirmed this development on Sunday night.
One of the sources, who pleaded anonymity, said, “Adamu resigned a few minutes ago on the orders of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”
The sources further said that the APC National Secretary, Senator Iyiola Omisore was also about to resign his position.
The reasons behind the reported resignation of both Adamu and Omisore remained sketchy as of the time of filing this report, although some party chieftains had been demanding the party chairman and secretary should quit.
Some members of the APC National Working Committee had also been at loggerheads with the party chairman regarding his management style which they’re not comfortable with.
Recall that since the ruling APC won the February 25 presidential election, Adamu has been embroiled in series of controversies.
About a week ago, Adamu ran into a fresh trouble when he opposed and disowned the principal officers elected by both the Senate and the House of Representatives.
It was learnt that while National Assembly leadership refused to carry the APC national chairman along, they secured President Tinubu’s approval to elect and announce the principal officers.
Adamu’s opposition to the development, which was later rejected by the APC NWC members was considered disrespectful and a defiance to President Tinubu’s orders.
It was further learnt that Tinubu’s bloc in the APC had yet to forgive Adamu over his announcement of the former Senate President, Ahmed Lawan, as the party’s consensus candidate during the last year’s presidential primary.
The earlier plan, it was gathered, was for the embattled Adamu to be forced to resign as chairman during the NWC that will precede the caucus and NEC meeting scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday this week.
