Tinubu Approves Nigeria’s Hosting of 2026 CAF General Assembly, Awards Ceremony

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved Nigeria’s bid to host the 48th Ordinary General Assembly of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the prestigious CAF Awards Ceremony later this year.

The approval was granted during the ongoing Africa Forward Summit in Nairobi, Kenya, following a bilateral meeting between President Tinubu and CAF President, Patrice Motsepe.

Present at the meeting were Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ibrahim Musa Gusau, Special Adviser to the CAF President, Amaju Melvin Pinnick, and CAF Acting General Secretary, Samson Adamu.

The 48th CAF Ordinary General Assembly is scheduled to hold in October 2026. The assembly is the highest decision-making body of African football, where presidents of CAF’s 54 member associations, representatives of the six zonal unions, and top football administrators converge to deliberate on critical issues affecting the sport across the continent.

Nigeria will also host the CAF Awards Ceremony, widely regarded as one of the biggest nights in African football, which celebrates the continent’s outstanding players, coaches, teams, and administrators.

This double hosting is expected to boost Nigeria’s profile as a major football destination in Africa and provide significant economic and tourism benefits to the country.

Further details on the exact dates and venues for both events are expected to be announced by the Nigeria Football Federation and the CAF Secretariat in due course.
