Tinubu Condemns Killing of Abducted Teacher, Assures Rescue of Oyo Kidnap Victims

President Bola Tinubu has strongly condemned the reported killing of one of the teachers abducted by bandits in Esiele community, Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, describing the act as barbaric.

In a statement issued on Monday, May 18, 2026, by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President assured that security forces are working round the clock to rescue all remaining victims.

Bandits had last Friday invaded the community and abducted staff and students from Community Grammar School, Baptist Nursery and Primary School, and L.A. Primary School.

President Tinubu expressed sympathy with Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, the state government, and the affected families. He said the Federal Government is collaborating closely with the Oyo State Government to secure the safe release of all victims.

“I am saddened by the reported killing of one of the teachers kidnapped by the gunmen who invaded the community. I sympathise with Governor Seyi Makinde and commend the steps he has taken on the matter,” the President said.

He commended the Inspector-General of Police and the Commissioners of Police in Oyo and Kwara States for their swift response, including the deployment of a tactical Intelligence Response Team (IRT).

“The IGP, following my instructions, is personally leading the tech-driven operation. We expect a breakthrough soon. The bandits and all their local collaborators will be fished out and made to face the full wrath of the law,” President Tinubu stated.

The President also used the occasion to renew his call for the establishment of state police, saying the rising cases of kidnapping make it imperative for states to have their own police forces to adequately secure underserved areas.

He urged the National Assembly to accelerate the passage of the necessary legislation to create state police.
