Tinubu Crowns Igwe Agubuzu as Chancellor of Federal University of Kashere in Grand Ceremony

In a dazzling display of academic excellence and cultural pride, President Bola Tinubu has officially installed His Royal Majesty, Igwe Dr. Lawrence Agubuzu, the revered Ogbunechendo of Ezema Olo Kingdom, as the Chancellor of the Federal University of Kashere (FUK) in Gombe State.

The historic investiture, held on Saturday during the university’s combined 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th convocation ceremonies, marked a monumental moment for the institution and the nation.

Represented by Prof. Ibrahim Garba, Vice-Chancellor of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi, President Tinubu bestowed the prestigious role with commanding authority.

“By the powers conferred on me as the Visitor to this university, I formally install you, His Royal Majesty, Igwe Dr. Lawrence Agubuzu, as the Chancellor of the Federal University of Kashere. I also confer upon you all the rights, powers, and privileges pertaining to this office,” he declared, igniting applause from the distinguished gathering.

The university’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Umaru Pate, pledged unwavering loyalty and support to the new Chancellor, heralding a new era of collaboration and progress.

In a crowning moment, Pate announced the conferment of an Honorary Doctorate of Letters on Igwe Agubuzu, stating, “By the authority vested in me, I confer upon Your Majesty this prestigious degree in recognition of your exemplary leadership and contributions.” The announcement was met with thunderous cheers, celebrating the royal father’s illustrious legacy.

Igwe Agubuzu, visibly moved, expressed profound gratitude for the honor. He lauded the Emir of Gombe, Abubakar Shehu III, and other traditional rulers for their relentless efforts in fostering peace and preserving cultural heritage.

Addressing the graduands, he urged them to embody the values of excellence, integrity, and service instilled by FUK. “You are now ambassadors of this great institution. Go forth and make us proud,” he charged, his words resonating with inspiration.

The convocation also saw the conferment of honorary doctorate degrees on four distinguished Nigerians for their monumental contributions to nation-building: Prof. Ali Pate, Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, recognized for revolutionizing healthcare access; Sen. Orji Uzor Kalu; Dr. Kole Shettima; and Rep. Abubakar Bichi. The Chancellor welcomed the honorees into the university’s legacy, declaring them integral to its future.

Sen. Orji Uzor Kalu, speaking on behalf of the recipients, expressed heartfelt appreciation to the University Governing Board, the Chancellor, and Vice-Chancellor Pate. He also praised Gombe State Governor, Inuwa Yahaya, for his steadfast support to the university, urging him to maintain his transformative momentum.
