Tinubu flags off construction of Lagos-Calabar road, calls project a symbol of hope

In a significant development aimed at enhancing connectivity and fostering economic development, the construction of the Lagos-Calabar Road was officially flagged off by President Tinubu on Sunday.

The event, held in the Victoria Area of Lagos State, witnessed the presence of distinguished government dignitaries, including Minister of Works Dave Umahi and Senate President Godswill Akpabio, among others.

Addressing the gathering, President Tinubu expressed unwavering confidence in the successful completion of the road project, declaring the flag-off as a milestone moment.

“It’s my bragging day,” he exclaimed. “We said we would do this road. We will do this road. We are determined to do it.”

Describing the project as a “symbol of hope,” Tinubu emphasized its transformative potential for connecting communities and generating employment opportunities.

Despite criticisms from various quarters, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, regarding transparency and cost concerns, Tinubu remained resolute in his conviction about the project’s significance.

“The project is more than a mere road. It is a symbol of hope, unity, and prosperity,” Tinubu remarked. “It will connect communities, bring prosperity to people, and create opportunities for millions.”

Acknowledging the efforts of Minister Dave Umahi in spearheading the project, Tinubu also highlighted its anticipated positive impact on Nigeria’s tourism sector upon completion.

The project, with a projected cost of N15 trillion, aims to not only enhance transportation infrastructure but also drive socio-economic development along the Lagos-Calabar corridor.
