President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended warm greetings to Christians and Muslims across Nigeria as the sacred seasons of Lent and Ramadan commence simultaneously today, describing the uncommon overlap as a powerful reminder of shared faith, common values, and national oneness.

In a statement released by the State House, the President noted that the rare convergence of the two observances—both starting on February 18, 2026—highlights the deep spiritual connections between the faiths. He emphasized that Lent and Ramadan both call for devotion to God, acts of sacrifice, self-reflection, and spiritual renewal.
“With profound reverence to God Almighty, I greet the Christian and Muslim faithful on the solemn occasions of Lent and Ramadan,” President Tinubu said.
“This year, Lent and Ramadan begin on the same day. This is not a common occurrence, and it reminds us that as a people of faith, we share a lot in common and are one people under God.”
The President urged all Nigerians to use this period to foster peace, good neighbourliness, and deeper national unity. He called on citizens to reflect honestly on their lives, live with honour and integrity, and offer fervent prayers for Nigeria’s progress, security, and overall well-being.
Tinubu expressed hope that the blessings, lessons, and joys derived from these holy seasons would strengthen individual faith while reinforcing harmony and solidarity across the country.
The message comes at a time when religious leaders and communities nationwide are observing the start of these periods of fasting and spiritual discipline. Christians mark Ash Wednesday today, beginning the 40-day Lenten journey toward Easter, while Muslims commence the month-long Ramadan fast following the sighting of the crescent moon.
The President’s call for unity echoes similar sentiments from other Nigerian leaders, including the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, who also encouraged prayers for the nation’s peace and prosperity during her separate greetings to both faiths.
As Nigerians embark on these sacred observances, the President’s words serve as a timely appeal for collective reflection and strengthened bonds in pursuit of a more peaceful and prosperous nation.
