President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially inaugurated the 2026 Nigerian Navy International Fleet Review at the Eko Atlantic Waterfront in Lagos, marking a major milestone in the nation’s maritime history.
The event formed part of activities commemorating the Nigerian Navy’s Platinum Jubilee, celebrating 70 years of dedicated service, maritime excellence, and its transformation into one of the leading naval forces in the Gulf of Guinea region.
During the ceremony, President Tinubu commissioned three newly acquired naval vessels aimed at enhancing the Navy’s operational capabilities and strengthening maritime security across Nigeria’s territorial waters.
The President also launched the Gulf of Guinea Combined Maritime Task Force, a regional security initiative designed to improve cooperation among countries in the region and combat transnational maritime threats, including piracy, illegal fishing, smuggling, and other criminal activities.
The fleet review featured an impressive display of naval assets and maritime strength, drawing participation from international partners, foreign naval delegations, and senior military officials from across the world.
Speaking at the event, President Tinubu reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to ensuring maritime safety, protecting critical national assets, and promoting regional stability through enhanced naval cooperation and operational excellence.
The inauguration underscores Nigeria’s strategic role in maritime security within the Gulf of Guinea and highlights the Nigerian Navy’s continued efforts to safeguard the nation’s maritime domain while fostering stronger partnerships with global naval forces.
