Tinubu on 2-Day Work Visit to Kebbi for Project Commissioning, Argungu Festival

President Bola Tinubu is set to visit Kebbi State for a two-day trip, where he will commission key development projects and join in the celebration of the famous Argungu International Fishing and Cultural Festival.

Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, made the announcement while speaking to a group of political defectors from other parties who joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Jega Local Government Area.

Governor Idris said the President’s visit will allow him to commission some major projects carried out by the state government. Due to his busy schedule, he may not be able to open all projects, but several important ones will be commissioned.

“I urge all citizens of Kebbi State to come out in large numbers to welcome Mr. President,” Governor Idris said. He added that the visit is a big opportunity to show support for the federal and state governments working together.

The President will also attend the Argungu International Fishing and Cultural Festival, which runs from February 11 to 14, 2026. This is the 61st edition of the event, which was postponed in 2025 to allow for improvements to infrastructure.

The festival takes place at the Matan Fada River in Argungu and is themed around unity, cultural heritage, and the end of the farming season. It is recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

The festival started in 1934 as a way to promote peace between the Sokoto Caliphate and the Kebbi Kingdom. It has since become a major symbol of unity and reconciliation.

This year’s event will feature exciting activities such as the Grand Fishing Finale where fishermen use traditional methods to catch the biggest fish canoe racing, wild duck catching, skin diving, local wrestling, boxing, cultural parades, music, dance, and a large agricultural trade fair.

People from across Nigeria and other countries are expected to attend, including political leaders, traditional rulers, tourists, and business people.

Governor Idris praised the new APC members for their decision and promised them fair treatment in the party. He also highlighted development projects in Jega and said his administration will continue to bring progress to all parts of Kebbi State.

The upcoming visit and festival are seen as a boost for tourism, culture, and development in Kebbi State. Preparations are already advanced, with upgrades to facilities and strong promotion of the event.
