President Bola Tinubu on Friday approved the partial waiver of the “No Work, No Pay” Order instituted against striking members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities by the former president Muhammadu Buhari-led administration following the commencement of their eight-month strike.

The strike began on February 14, 2022, and was terminated on October 17, 2022.
President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, in a statement, disclosed that the waiver “will allow for the previously striking members of ASUU to receive four months of salary accruals out of the eight months of salary which was withheld during the eight-month industrial action undertaken by the union.”
Tinubu in the statement titled ‘President Tinubu approves partial waiver of the no work, no pay order on ASUU members; orders release of four months of withheld salary’, the President directed the grant of the waiver with a mandatory requirement that the Federal Ministry of Education and the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment must secure a Document of Understanding establishing that this exceptional waiver granted by the President will be the last one to be granted to ASUU and all other Education Sector Unions.
Tinubu, who according to the statement invoked the Principle of the Presidential Prerogative of Mercy, sought to “mitigate the difficulties being felt during the implementation of key economic reforms in the country, as well as his recognition of the faithful implementation of terms which were agreed upon during the deliberations between ASUU and the Federal Government of Nigeria.”

He disclosed that no fewer than 120 cult members have been arrested in the last three months across the state, while 100 of them have been remanded.
He also assured that the state government will give no breathing space to anyone, no matter how highly connected, who derives joy in disturbing the peace of the state.
Subair spoke during a security meeting held on Friday in Sagamu with the Akarigbo and Paramount ruler of Remoland, Oba Babatunde Adewale Ajayi.
The meeting also had in attendance other members of the Ogun State Government Security team, such as the Consultant to the Governor on Security, CP Awolowo Ajogun (rtd), Senior Special Assistant on Security, Hon. Biyi Odubote, as well as all the Divisional Police Officers in Sagamu.
Subair said that the essence of the meeting was to brief the Paramount ruler on the Security situation in Remoland, especially in Sagamu, which had recently served as a battlefield to some rival cult killings, saying that the resolve of the state government to wage war against all forms of criminality has helped to bring the situation under control.
He said, “Kabiyesi, we are here on behalf of your son and Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, to brief you about the security situation in your domain. The Governor has always maintained his resolve to use the instrumentality of the law to deal decisively with anyone who wants to disrupt the peace of any part of the state. In the last three months, nothing less than 120 cultists have been arrested, while 100 of them are on remand through court orders.
“As it is now, the security of lives and properties has improved greatly in Remoland, and the governor has equally promised not to give breathing space to any criminal-minded persons or groups because we all know that without peace, there cannot be progress or development. We need the cooperation of all to further sustain this tempo and keep making our state safe for all.”
Akarigbo, Oba Adewale Ajayi, in his response, lauded Gov Abiodun for his proactiveness and efforts to ensure that every part of the state is safe for all residents.
Oba Adewale Ajayi particularly lauded Gov Abiodun for providing another Armoured Personnel Carrier to support crime fighting in the town, saying that this kind gesture has also helped to boost the security of the residents of the community.
The royal father pledged the support of all other traditional rulers and people of Remoland towards supporting the government to rid the state of all forms of criminality.
Also present at the event were Oba Adewale Osiberu, Elepe of Epe, Sagamu, Oba Oriyomi Soile, Radanuwa of Idado, Sagamu and Chief Adebayo Onafuwa, Bamofin of Remoland.
