National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, has commanded groups sharing bags of rice to the less privileged in some states in the North.
Some groups have been sharing the gift in the North including the one recently led by the Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker, Mudasiru Obasa, which donated about 10,000 bags of 15kg rice to Internally Displaced Persons in Borno State.
There have been speculations that the former Lagos State governor wants to use the rice gifts to win the hearts of Nigerians towards he supposed 2023 presidential ambition.
But in a statement by his Media Aide, Tunde Rahman, on Friday, Tinubu said he was not the one behind the distribution of the rice.
He, however, commended the various groups doing so, describing the gesture as acts of charity and love, especially in this month of Ramadan.
“We have seen the images being circulated of bags of rice depicting Asiwaju’s face being distributed across parts of the North.
“I am not responsible for this initiative but l commends the efforts of the various volunteer groups responsible for this benign act of charity and love for one another, particularly in this Holy month of Ramadan,” the statement read.
