Tinubu Vows Relentless Fight Against Terrorism: “We Will Win” Despite Sleepless Nights Over Insecurity

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu today declared that the persistent threat of terrorism and banditry remains a major source of sleepless nights for Nigeria’s leadership, but assured the nation of ultimate victory in the battle to restore peace and security.

Speaking at the opening of the National Economic Council (NEC) conference at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, President Tinubu emphasized his unwavering commitment to bolstering the country’s security apparatus.

“I am leaving here again to further find means to strengthen our security forces to defeat terrorism, that I promise you,” he said. “It is what has kept all of us sleepless at night, but I assure you we will win.”

The president’s remarks came amid ongoing discussions on national security challenges, which he described as “unacceptable” and foreign to Nigerian culture. He stressed that terrorism and banditry not only endanger lives but also pose significant economic obstacles that demand urgent resolution.

In a show of appreciation for frontline efforts, President Tinubu singled out the governors of Borno, Kaduna, and Katsina states for commendation.

He praised their proactive roles in supporting security operations and defending the nation’s freedom, liberty, and commonwealth. Governors Babagana Zulum (Borno), Uba Sani (Kaduna), and Umaru Dikko Radda (Katsina) were highlighted for the noticeable improvements in security within their states.

The NEC conference, which brings together the 36 state governors, federal officials, development partners, and stakeholders, is focused on advancing inclusive growth under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

While the primary agenda includes economic coordination, livestock reforms, and agricultural diversification to address issues like farmer-herder conflicts, the president’s address underscored the inseparable link between security and sustainable development.

Tinubu reiterated that defeating insecurity is central to unlocking Nigeria’s economic potential, urging continued collaboration between federal and state governments.

The two-day summit is expected to produce actionable policies aimed at accelerating national progress while reinforcing collective efforts against insecurity.
