National Security Adviser (NSA) Mallam Nuhu Ribadu has credited President Bola Tinubu’s administration with rescuing Nigeria from a perilous state it faced in 2022, marked by widespread crises threatening its unity and stability.
Speaking at the 50th anniversary celebration of the Nigerian Defence Academy’s 18 Regular Course in Abuja, Ribadu described the pre-2023 situation as dire, with security threats spanning the insurgency-ravaged North East, violence-plagued North West, restive Niger Delta, and separatist agitations in the South East.
Ribadu highlighted the administration’s “bold strides” in tackling these inherited challenges, noting significant progress in counterinsurgency efforts.
He revealed that over 13,500 terrorists and criminals have been neutralized, while more than 124,000 Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters, along with their families, have surrendered. The NSA reaffirmed the government’s commitment to restoring security and rebuilding national confidence.

He also advocated for the active involvement of military veterans, citing their expertise as vital in addressing complex threats. Meanwhile, retired Lieutenant General Azubuike Ihejirika, 22nd Chief of Army Staff, proposed mandatory military training for National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members to strengthen the fight against insurgency and other security issues.
