The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has lambasted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration for its insensitivity to the widespread hardship and suffering faced by Nigerians. In a scathing press statement, the PDP asserted that Monday’s Presidential media chat only served to confirm the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration’s disconnection from the primary purpose of government: the welfare and security of its citizens.

At the center of the controversy is President Tinubu’s declaration that he has no regrets over the sudden removal of fuel subsidies without implementing measures to mitigate the crippling effects on the economy. The PDP argues that this decision has driven citizens to extreme poverty and early death, highlighting the APC’s failure to account for the proceeds saved from the removal of subsidies.

The PDP is disturbed by President Tinubu’s admission that Nigerians are bearing the brunt of the APC administration’s failure to secure the nation’s borders and prevent the smuggling of petroleum products to neighboring countries

Furthermore, the PDP is disturbed by President Tinubu’s admission that Nigerians are bearing the brunt of the APC administration’s failure to secure the nation’s borders and prevent the smuggling of petroleum products to neighboring countries. The party also criticized the President’s claim that the nation’s economy has improved under his watch, citing worsening economic indicators such as a comatose productive sector, a deteriorating Naira value, high inflation, and unemployment rates.

The PDP challenged President Tinubu to travel from Abuja to Lagos by road, visit markets, or take a walk on the streets to gauge the real situation in the country, rather than relying on fabricated statistics. This call to action underscores the party’s assertion that the APC administration is out of touch with the reality of Nigerians’ suffering.

As the country grapples with widespread hardship, the PDP’s statement serves as a stark reminder of the need for effective governance and accountability. With the 2027 elections on the horizon, the PDP’s criticism of the APC administration’s performance is likely to resonate with Nigerians seeking change.
