Tombowua Assures of Smooth Council Polls Amidst Litigation Fears

Benue Council Polls: BSIEC Chairman Confident of Successful Exercise

The Benue State Independent Electoral Commission (BSIEC) is determined to conduct the October 5 council polls, according to Chairman Richard Tombowua. He stated this while addressing journalists at BSIEC headquarters in Makurdi.

Eight political parties have indicated readiness to participate, and over 5,000 ad-hoc staff have been recruited to ensure a hitch-free exercise. Tombowua expressed enthusiasm about stakeholder participation, assuring no issues will arise.

Tombowua warned that any attempts to obtain a court injunction to stop the elections would be futile, as the process is designed to continue regardless

Regarding potential litigation from the dissolved Austin Agada-led faction, Tombowua dismissed fears, citing the national secretariat’s guidelines for the seven-man caretaker committee. “We’re following instructions religiously, believing all will be well,” he said.

Tombowua warned that any attempts to obtain a court injunction to stop the elections would be futile, as the process is designed to continue regardless.
