In a targeted operation aimed at disrupting insurgent supply lines, Nigerian troops from Operation Hadin Kai successfully ambushed a suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP logistics team in the Kirawa area of Borno State, neutralizing one fighter and recovering essential supplies.
The ambush occurred late Thursday along the Gakara–Kirawa axis as part of the ongoing Operation Mountain Sanity II/Desert Sanity IV/Diligent Search. Troops, working in close collaboration with Hybrid Forces and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), intercepted the group believed to be transporting provisions to hidden insurgent camps.
According to a military source familiar with the operation, the soldiers engaged the insurgents with superior firepower after spotting their movement. “The troops engaged the terrorists with overwhelming firepower, leading to the neutralisation of one of them, while others fled with possible gunshot wounds,” the source stated.
Following the encounter, a thorough search of the area yielded several items suspected to be en route to ISWAP hideouts. Recovered materials included two bicycles, three bags of semovita, 200 sachets of salt, 19 wrappers, and 11 bottles of energy drink. These supplies highlight the insurgents’ reliance on basic logistics to sustain their operations in remote areas.
No casualties were reported among the troops or civilian personnel involved in the operation, underscoring the effectiveness of the coordinated effort.
This latest action is part of a broader intensification of military offensives in the Timbuktu Triangle and Lake Chad fringes. The Nigerian Armed Forces have ramped up efforts to sever terrorist supply chains, restrict their mobility, and dismantle their networks in the region. Operation Hadin Kai, launched to combat the lingering threat of Boko Haram and its ISWAP faction, continues to yield results in stabilizing northeastern Nigeria.
Security analysts note that such interdictions are crucial in weakening the insurgents’ operational capacity, as they increasingly face shortages amid sustained pressure from government forces. Local communities in Borno have welcomed these developments, with CJTF members playing a pivotal role in providing intelligence and support.
Further details on the operation remain limited as investigations continue, but military officials have reiterated their commitment to eradicating terrorism in the area. Residents are urged to report suspicious activities to aid ongoing security efforts.
