The Nigerian military’s counter-insurgency task force in the Northeast, ‘Operation Hadin Kai’ have neutralized five terrorists in a fierce encounter near Goni Dunari in Magumeri Local Government Area of Borno State.
The operation, which took place earlier today, also resulted in the recovery of N5 million suspected to be a ransom money collected from the Magumeri and Gajiram general areas.
The operation began with a 92-kilometer pursuit of fleeing terrorists, culminating in a grueling four-hour battle.
According to a statement from the Voice of Nigeria, the military engaged the insurgents with precision, seizing an AK-47 rifle, several magazines, ammunition, a mobile phone, and a dagger. Blood trails left behind by the terrorists suggest that additional fighters may have been wounded during the clash.
Images released by the military showcase the recovered weapons, including a damaged AK-47 and multiple ammunition magazines scattered in a grassy field, alongside a mobile phone believed to have been used for coordinating ransom demands.
In a separate scene, stacks of Nigerian Naira notes, meticulously arranged on a green tarp, highlight the substantial ransom haul, offering a glimpse into the financial networks sustaining the insurgency.
This operation adds to the ongoing successes of Operation Hadin Kai, which has been instrumental in degrading Boko Haram’s operational capabilities. Historical data from the region indicates that the task force has previously neutralized high-profile commanders and disrupted terrorist strongholds, as seen in the August 2024 air interdiction that eliminated five key leaders in Southern Tumbuns.
Local residents expressed relief but remain cautious, with community leaders calling for sustained military presence to prevent further attacks. “We are grateful for the bravery of our troops, but the threat is not over,” said Mallam Ibrahim, a village elder in Magumeri. The recovered ransom money is expected to be investigated to trace its origins and dismantle the financial pipelines fueling the insurgency.
The Nigerian Army continues to adapt its strategies, with Operation Hadin Kai maintaining a firm grip on the region despite occasional tactical setbacks. As the nation marks this victory, military officials emphasize the need for unity and support to ensure lasting peace in Borno State.
