Troops Repel Over 300 Iswap Terrorists in Dawn Attack On Chibok

In a decisive early-morning operation, troops of the 28 Task Force Brigade under Sector 4 of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) successfully repelled a massive assault by more than 300 ISWAP/Boko Haram terrorists on Chibok community in southern Borno State.

The heavily armed terrorists launched a coordinated multi-directional attack at approximately 3:00 a.m. on Saturday, attempting to overrun military defensive positions and breach the town’s perimeter.

Military sources told journalists that the troops, who were on high alert, immediately engaged the attackers with overwhelming firepower. The fierce two-hour gun battle forced the terrorists to abandon their offensive and retreat in disarray toward the notorious Timbuktu Triangle, a known terrorist enclave in the Sambisa Forest axis.

“The troops were alert and professionally contained the attack. There was no casualty on our side, and no equipment was lost or damaged,” a senior military officer disclosed.

As the terrorists fled, ground forces promptly requested close air support. The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) responded swiftly, deploying combat aircraft that delivered precise and devastating strikes along the terrorists’ withdrawal routes.

According to authoritative defence sources, four major airstrikes were conducted by NAF jets, guided by real-time intelligence provided by the 28 Task Force Brigade. The first wave targeted a large cluster of fleeing terrorists attempting to regroup, inflicting heavy casualties. Subsequent strikes pursued smaller pockets of fighters dispersing into surrounding forested areas.

In addition to the manned aircraft sorties, an armed unmanned aerial platform (drone) maintained continuous intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) coverage over the axis. The drone carried out additional high-precision strikes that further eliminated retreating fighters and completely disrupted their movement and command structure.

“The combination of ground and air coordination was flawless. The terrorists suffered substantial losses and have been prevented from reorganising after this failed attack,” the source emphasised.

No civilian casualties or damage to community infrastructure were reported during the incident, and calm has since returned to Chibok.

The successful defence and follow-up operation underscore the improved synergy between the Nigerian Army and Air Force components of Operation Hadin Kai in degrading ISWAP’s operational capacity in the North-East.
