The rescue operation was launched in the early hours of Sunday, June 1, 2026, after security forces received a distress call reporting the abduction of passengers by armed kidnappers operating along the route.

According to military sources, troops responded promptly and initiated an aggressive pursuit of the suspected kidnappers, forcing them to abandon their captives and flee the area.

All 23 victims were rescued unharmed and secured by the troops. During the operation, security personnel also recovered three vehicles abandoned by the suspects.

However, the military confirmed that two persons lost their lives during the incident, while five others sustained varying degrees of injuries.

The injured victims were immediately evacuated to St. Joseph Hospital, Kabba, where they are currently receiving medical treatment.

Security forces have continued operations across the area to track down the fleeing suspects and strengthen security along the corridor.

The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property, assuring residents that efforts are ongoing to curb criminal activities and enhance public safety in the region.
