United States President Donald Trump has announced that Iran has agreed never to acquire a nuclear weapon, while strongly denying reports that Washington plans to pay Tehran $300 million as part of a broader peace agreement aimed at ending months of hostilities in the Middle East.

Trump made the declaration in a statement posted on social media amid reports of a preliminary understanding reached between the United States and Iran following more than three months of military tensions involving Iran, the United States, and Israel.
