A shocking incident unfolded in northwest Indiana, where a sheriff’s deputy fatally shot Matthew Huttle, a 42-year-old man who was pardoned by President Donald Trump for his role in the January 6, 2021, US Capitol riot. The incident occurred during a traffic stop on Sunday, when Huttle allegedly resisted arrest, leading to a confrontation with the deputy.

According to reports, the traffic stop was initiated by a deputy from the Jasper County Sheriff’s Department, who pulled Huttle over on State Road 14 around 4:15 p.m. The situation escalated when Huttle, who had a firearm on him, put up a fight, prompting the deputy to fire his weapon, resulting in Huttle’s death.

Huttle was one of the individuals involved in the January 6 chaos at the Capitol, and he had recently received a pardon from Trump. He and his uncle, Dale Huttle, were tracked down and arrested in Boise, Idaho, after they were identified as participants in the riot. Matthew Huttle had served a six-month federal prison sentence and was set to complete his supervised release in July 2024, but his pardon spared him from further consequences.

The incident has raised questions about the pardons granted by Trump to those involved in the January 6 events. US Senator Lindsey Graham, a close ally of the president, had criticized the pardons, and this latest incident has sparked further debate about the matter.

The Indiana State Police are currently investigating the shooting, and the deputy involved has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
