U.S. President Donald J. Trump issued a fiery warning to Iran on Sunday, declaring that the American military stands ready to escalate dramatically and “finish up the little that is left of Iran” following the failure of high-stakes peace negotiations in Islamabad, Pakistan.
In a series of strongly worded posts on Truth Social, Trump accused Iran of bad faith after more than 21 hours of intense talks led by Vice President JD Vance, Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, and adviser Jared Kushner.
The marathon session, hosted by Pakistani leaders Field Marshal Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, ended without agreement on the core issue: Iran’s nuclear ambitions.
“There is only one thing that matters — IRAN IS UNWILLING TO GIVE UP ITS NUCLEAR AMBITIONS!” Trump wrote. “The only point that really mattered, NUCLEAR, was not.”
Trump highlighted Iran’s failure to reopen the Strait of Hormuz — a vital chokepoint for global oil shipments — despite earlier promises. He noted that fears of naval mines, allegedly planted by Iran, have paralyzed international shipping and caused widespread economic disruption.
“Iran promised to open the Strait of Hormuz, and they knowingly failed to do so,” the President stated. “They say they put mines in the water… They may have done so, but what ship owner would want to take the chance?”
In response, Trump announced immediate naval action: “Effective immediately, the United States Navy… will begin the process of BLOCKADING any and all Ships trying to enter, or leave, the Strait of Hormuz.” He further ordered the interception of vessels suspected of paying illegal tolls to Iran and vowed to clear any mines in the waterway.
Trump described Iran’s conduct as “WORLD EXTORTION,” adding that “Leaders of Countries, especially the United States of America, will never be extorted.” He issued a blunt threat: “Any Iranian who fires at us, or at peaceful vessels, will be BLOWN TO HELL!”
The President claimed Iran’s military has already been decimated, stating its navy, air force, anti-aircraft systems, and radar are “gone” or “useless” due to its pursuit of nuclear weapons.
He concluded with his strongest warning yet: “Additionally and, at an appropriate moment, we are fully ‘LOCKED AND LOADED,’ and our Military will finish up the little that is left of Iran!”
The talks in Islamabad had raised hopes for ending a conflict that erupted earlier in 2026 between the U.S., Israel, and Iran, which has severely disrupted global energy markets. A fragile two-week ceasefire had been in place, but the breakdown leaves the future of the truce uncertain.
Iran responded defiantly. The Iranian Embassy in Ghana posted that the U.S. delegation “flew their Vice President halfway across the world… 21 hours of talks.
They demanded everything they couldn’t achieve through war. Iran said a BIG NO. The talks are over. The Strait is still closed. And the VP is flying home empty-handed.”
The escalation comes amid broader concerns over security in the Middle East and the potential for wider conflict that could further spike global oil prices and threaten international shipping routes.
As tensions rise, the U.S. Navy has already begun mine-clearing operations in the Strait of Hormuz, while the world watches closely for Iran’s next move and any potential military response from Washington.
