The recent outbreak of violence between the Tshobo and Bachama communities in Lamurde Local Government Area (LGA) of Adamawa State has sparked widespread concern, prompting a strong condemnation from Rt. Hon. Kwamoti B. Laori, a member of the House of Representatives.

In a heartfelt statement, Hon. Laori decried the tragic loss of lives, destruction of property, and displacement of residents, describing the violence as a painful threat to the centuries-old bond of brotherhood between the two communities. “For centuries, the Tshobo and Bachama have lived together as brothers, sharing culture, beliefs, and even family ties through intermarriage,” Hon. Laori stated.

“It is deeply saddening to see this bond threatened by violence. Violence only breeds further division and suffering; it is never the answer.” The unrest in Lamurde LGA, which has disrupted the long-standing harmony between the Tshobo and Bachama, has resulted in significant loss and displacement, casting a shadow over the region’s history of peaceful coexistence. Hon. Laori expressed profound sympathy for the affected families, offering condolences to those who have lost loved ones and solidarity with those whose homes and livelihoods have been destroyed.
In his statement, Hon. Laori commended the swift and decisive response of Adamawa State Governor, Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, who imposed a curfew to curb the escalating violence. “His Excellency’s timely intervention is a critical step toward restoring calm and protecting lives and property,” Laori said, describing the governor’s leadership as both commendable and reassuring in this moment of crisis.

Calling for dialogue and reconciliation, Hon. Laori urged all parties involved to embrace peaceful resolutions and reject further violence. “This is a time for sober reflection, unity, and leadership,” he emphasized. “We must rise above anger and division to reclaim the peace and dignity of our communities.”
The lawmaker also appealed to government agencies and security forces to intensify efforts to restore stability and ensure the safe return of displaced persons to their homes.

Additionally, he called on community leaders, youth groups, religious institutions, and other stakeholders to actively engage in peacebuilding and healing initiatives to mend the fractured bonds in the affected areas. The violence in Lamurde LGA serves as a stark reminder of the fragility of communal harmony and the need for proactive measures to sustain peace.
Hon. Laori’s call for unity and dialogue underscores the urgency of collective action to preserve the deep cultural and familial ties that have historically united the Tshobo and Bachama. As Adamawa State navigates this challenging period, the leadership of figures like Hon. Laori and Governor Fintiri will be critical in guiding the region toward reconciliation and renewed stability.
The hope remains that the Tshobo and Bachama communities, with their shared history of brotherhood, can overcome this crisis and restore the peace that has long defined their relationship.
