The convicts are Otuorimuno Nelson Aziakpono, 58, and Ikegwuonu Davidson Ikechukwu, 28. They were found guilty on eight counts related to violations of laws governing food and drug safety, including the Counterfeit and Fake Drugs and Unwholesome Processed Foods Act.

The case followed an enforcement operation by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) on December 3, 2025, at Kojo Street in Ijanikin and Vespa Market in Lagos.

Officers recovered large quantities of fake and unregistered products mimicking popular brands such as Hennessy, Jameson Irish Whiskey, William Lawson’s, and Gordon’s Gin. Authorities described the items as unwholesome, misleadingly packaged, and dangerous to consumers due to potential health risks from adulteration.

NAFDAC prosecuted the case, highlighting the conviction as a key step in protecting public health from substandard and fake consumables. The agency has warned that such products pose serious threats, including poisoning and long-term health damage.

The ruling, delivered by the Federal High Court, underscores ongoing efforts to crack down on counterfeit goods in Nigeria’s markets. NAFDAC reiterated its commitment to stricter enforcement against those endangering lives through illegal production and sales.
