Two women die, others injured, as mining pit collapses in Bauchi

Two women miners are reported dead following a collapse of a mining pit in Bar-Kudu community of Bogoro local government area of Bauchi state.

This was contained in summary of Thursday plenary of Bauchi state house of assembly compiled and made available to newsmen by the spokesperson of the speaker, Mal. Abdul Ahmad Burra.

According to the summary of the plenary, three other miners escaped with variously degrees of injuries and are presently receiving treatment at the hospital.

The summary of the plenary which was presided over by Speaker, Abubakar Suleiman, noted that the member representing Bogoro constituency in the assembly, Hon. Musa Wakil Nakwada made the disclosure under matters of urgent public importance during plenary on Thursday.

Hon Nakwada who informed the House of the calamity in his Constituency, said five women miners were involved in a mining site accident after the mining pit collapsed on them at Bar Kudu village.

According to the Member, two of the women have been confirmed dead while others survived with different types of injuries and fractures.

He added that funeral arrangements for the deceased persons have been concluded while the injured persons are receiving medical treatments at the hospital.

The Lawmaker urged the Assembly to sympathize and pray for comfort of the departed souls and healing for the wounded ones.

While responding, the Speaker sent sympathies of the House to the people of Bogoro Constituency and called on Bogoro Local Government Council to urgently help the victims in whatever form it can in order to ameliorate their sufferings.
