An NGO, Grow With Data Youth Foundation (GWDYF), is training 50 youths drawn from three local government areas of Adamawa State on Blogging, Website Development, Graphic Design and other technology-based businesses.
The NGO is hosting the trainees from Girei, Yola North and Yola South LGAs and impactung the techpreneur training in them in its belief that such training is what youths require in the Nigeria of today where youths no longer get jobs after their education.
Founder and Executive Director of the GWD Youth Foundation, Mrs Nnenna Mosugu, who explained the concept to newsmen during the weekend, said that the trainees were being exposed to apps that they could use in expanding their businesses or apply to develop businesses of other people for them, thereby making a living for themselves.
“There are lots of apps you can use but they will be useless to you if you do not know them ot how to use them,” she explained, adding that techpreneurs derive their success from being people who could harvest technology to convert seemingly small opportunities into successful commercial realities
She reiterated that techpreneurs or entrepreneurs with knowledge of technology are people with limitless chances because even if they have no businesses of their own, they could make other people’s businesses thrive and live on proceeds of their expertise.
The Grow With Data Youth Foundation which is currently grooming 25 youths after completing the first batch about two weeks back, says its mission is driven by the conviction that Nigeria is in an era when every youth must think of how to be self-employed.
“The economy is tough for job seekers. People must think of what to do after school,” Mrs Mosugu emphasized.
The 50 beneficiaries of the techpreneur training are receiving know-how on Graphic Design, Website Design & Hosting, Blogging, Photography, and such management fields as Marketing and Financial Literacy for business Vissibilty and prudent handling of finances once a business is underway.
The Grow With Data Youth Foundation started its techpreneurship training of youths last year with young women as its focus.
“This techpreneur programme is an extension of our first effort in June last year when we trained 30 young women,” Mrs Mosugu said, adding, “We designed this current training after noting complaint from young men who said they had been left out. So, the trainees this time cut across gender,” she explained.
