An unknown disease has left many fishes dead in Ibi local government area of Taraba state.
our Correspondent who visited the historic town whom most of the people depends on fishing as their means of livelihood, reports that the type of the disease is yet to be identified.
Confirming the outbreak of the disease, Chairman caretaker committee of Ibi, Bala Bako said fishermen especially the river Benue, have discovered some spots on the fish and reported to him.
He said many fishes have died as a result of the said disease.
Also in an interview, the Chief of Ibi, Abubakar Salihu Danbawuro said on hearing the incident he and the Chairman of the area quickly reported the issue to the state government for urgent action.
According to him, the state government had immediately sent a delegation from the state Ministry of Agriculture to find out the cause of the disease.
When contacted for comment on the matter, Chairman fish sallers, Ibi LG, Danlami Sale said this is the first time such a trial is happening, calling on the state government to wade into the matter as many of them have lost their customers because of the disease.
