Vandals of Electricity cables at both the Broadcasting House and Transmitting Station of ABC Yola, Adamawa State Radio have carted away radial wires and armored cables to scuttle the daily transmission of News and programs of the premier Radio station.
It was gathered that more than ten times on separate occasions, the vandals carted away radial wires and armored cables at the Transmitting Station in Mbamba and at the Broadcasting House at Horre Ladde.
Worried with this scenario, the management of the corporation had engaged the services of Vigilante group armed with den gun due to lack of permanent security personnel, because the Radio has only one permanent security personnel who is due to retire from service next year.
The engagement of the vigilante group and casual security personnel had started yielded positive results, with the arrest of some vandals and subsequent conviction of one to more than ten years imprisonment while one is under trial.
The one on trial Mr Afremo Bitrus said he is from Mayo-Belwa local government area.
Commenting on the development, the General Manger of the Radio Station, Mallam Mohammed Dahiru Payi who lauded the efforts of the security personnel for apprehending the culprits, explained that activities of the vandals usually affects hours of transmission.
He said whenever they carried out their nefarious acts; the station has to rely solely on generators to power its machines throughout hours of transmission which is cost effective considering the amount to be involved in purchasing diesel.
Payi appealed to government to give waiver to the Radio Station to employ permanent security personnel to safeguard the equipment from vandals, while modalities are being work out by the management of the corporation to increase the number of solar lights at both Transmitting Station in Mbamba and Broadcasting House at Horre Ladde to illuminate the areas.
