WAEC Releases 2026 CB-WASSCE Results: 43.87% Secure Five Credits

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially released the results of the 2026 First Series Computer-Based West African Senior School Certificate Examination (CB-WASSCE) for private candidates, offering thousands of hopefuls a chance to advance their academic and career pursuits.

The examination, conducted across Nigeria from January 28 to February 14, 2026, saw a notable rise in participation, with 10,523 candidates registering — an 11.49 per cent increase from 9,438 in 2025. Of these, 10,480 candidates actually sat the papers at 166 centres nationwide.

WAEC coordinated the marking exercise at three centres in Lagos, Enugu, and Kaduna between February 26 and March 13, deploying a total of 608 examiners.

The council also made special provisions for 43 candidates with special needs, including 11 visually impaired, four with hearing impairments, and four albinos.

Males accounted for 5,106 candidates (48.72 per cent), while females made up 5,374 (51.28 per cent), reflecting a slight female majority among private candidates this year.

According to WAEC, results of 8,418 candidates (80.32 per cent) have been fully processed and released. However, 2,062 candidates (19.68 per cent) have some subjects still under processing due to errors traceable to them. The council assured that these will be resolved promptly.

On overall performance, 4,598 candidates, representing 43.87 per cent, obtained credit passes and above in at least five subjects, with or without English Language and Mathematics.

More significantly, 3,429 candidates (32.72 per cent) secured credits in a minimum of five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics — a key benchmark for university admission and many professional opportunities.

Of this group, 1,847 (53.86 per cent) were male and 1,582 (46.14 per cent) were female.

WAEC noted a marginal improvement in this critical pass rate compared to previous years: 30.95 per cent in 2024 and 26.96 per cent in 2025.

The results of 75 candidates (0.72 per cent) have been withheld pending investigation into alleged examination malpractice. WAEC stated that affected candidates will be duly informed of the outcomes.

Candidates are advised to visit the official WAEC results portal to check their performance using their examination details. Digital certificates are now available online, while hard copies can be requested through WAEC’s certificate portal.
