We Must Get Rid of ‘Government of Forgers’ – Atiku Rallies Support for ADC Candidate in AMAC Election

Former Vice President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has intensified his criticism of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), describing it as a “government of forgers” and urging voters in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to support the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the upcoming February 21 Area Council elections.

Atiku made the strong statement during a campaign rally in Apo Wasa, Abuja, where he joined the campaign trail of Dr. Moses Paul (popularly known as Dr. Mo), the ADC’s chairmanship candidate for the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC).

In a post shared on his official X account this morning, Atiku praised Dr. Paul as “the kind of Nigerian that young people in Abuja can relate to and trust with the future of the Municipal Council.” He described the candidate as youthful, relatable, and credible, highlighting his potential to connect with the grassroots and deliver accountable leadership.

The former Vice President explicitly called on FCT residents, particularly those in AMAC, to vote for all ADC candidates in the local polls. He framed the election as a critical first step toward removing what he called the “failed APC government” at both local and national levels.

“ADC is undoubtedly the party that will salvage Nigeria, and the surest bet is to start with Dr Mo and AMAC,” Atiku declared.

The rally, which took place at LEA Primary School in Wasa, Abuja, drew supporters and marked a significant show of opposition unity in the FCT. Dr. Moses Paul, a PhD holder, author, social activist, and leader in the Free Nigeria Movement, has been campaigning actively for months, gaining attention for his community-focused approach and appeal to younger voters.

Atiku’s endorsement comes amid growing opposition momentum in the FCT, with previous high-profile support for Dr. Paul from figures like Peter Obi. Analysts see the push as part of a broader strategy to build grassroots strength in the nation’s capital ahead of future national contests.

The February 21 FCT Area Council elections are seen as a key test for opposition parties seeking to challenge the APC’s dominance in local governance. Voters in AMAC and other councils will decide chairmanship and councillorship positions that impact daily services and infrastructure in the territory.

Political observers note that Atiku’s repeated description of the current administration as a “government of forgers” aligns with his earlier criticisms of alleged forgery and lack of integrity in federal governance, reinforcing his call for a fundamental political reset starting from the grassroots.

As the campaign enters its final stretch, attention now turns to whether this high-profile backing will translate into electoral gains for the ADC in AMAC and across the FCT.
