A socio – cultural group based in Kaduna has nominated Member representing Gombi/Hong Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Yusuf Buba Yakub, for the Northern Nigeria Man of Peace Award for the year 2019.
The above, which was contained in a letter written to the lawmaker by the Group, Northern Youths Peace and Reconciliation Initiative ( NYPARI) and signed by its Director General, Sir A.A. Lawan Uba, was made available to National Assembly correspondents at the resumption of plenary, Tuesday, in Abuja.
According to the Group, Rt. Hon. Buba carted home the Award ahead of other challengers because of “his role in supporting and promoting peace in the country”.
In the words of the DG of the Group, Sir.Uba, Dan Malikin Chikasoro,Adamawa State, who spoke to us through a telephone conversation, “ Everyone in Adamawa State has seen the great achievements of Hon. Captain Buba these few years in the National Assembly. He has used his office to provide empowerment and job opportunities for our youths, for our men and women and has shown everybody equal treatment and love. He has offered comprehensive healthcare to his constituents, sunk boreholes everywhere and shown that he has the interest of the people at heart. Above all, he is a unifier. He has brought Christians and Muslims, Animists and different ethnic groups together under his care. That is why we chose him for the Award in the whole nation, the DG of the Group concluded.
In statement signed by his special Adviser on Media and publicity affairs,Nkem Anyata-Lafia read that the Northern Youths Peace and Reconciliation Initiatives (NYPARI) is a non-profit , non-political and non-governmental organisation with offices in Kaduna and Abuja.
According to Sir. Uba,the Group was formed by like- minded individuals of Northern Nigeria extraction with the goal of promoting peace in the region and ensuring all-round development of Nigeria. This, he says, they do by fostering peace and reconciliation among people living together.
Most of the programmes of the group, the traditional title holder added, “are focused on the optimum productivity of the youths through capacity building, workshops, trainings and seminars”.
Among the past winners of the Award are Amb. Yusuf Maitama Sule and late President, Umaru Musa Yar’Adua.
The Award will be presented to Rt. Hon. Yusuf Buba Yakub in Abuja on a future date.
